All Traffic Can Now Use One Lane on NC Highway 12
One lane of NC Highway 12 north of Rodanthe is now open to all traffic. The road had been closed to regular traffic on Hatteras Island because of sand and over wash from last week’s nor’easter.
North Carolina DOT today put stone over the broken pavement of one lane to provide access for all vehicles including trucks and non four wheel drive automobiles. The lane is available 24 hours per day and replaces the temporary four wheel drive route that had been in use since Sunday.
A temporary portable traffic signal will direct vehicles through this one lane section. Motorists should expect slow downs through the area. No parking is permitted in the work zone area 1/2 mile north and south of the one lane portion.
The emergency ferry service established from Stumpy Point to Rodanthe ends today. All ferry routes resume their normal schedules, and tolls and reservations will be reinstated Wednesday, November 18. For further information on ferry operations, visit www.ncferry.org or call 1-800-293-3779 (1-800-BY-FERRY)
Further updates will be issued as needed by Dare County Emergency Management and posted on-line at www.darenc.com and on Cable Channel 20.http://www.darenc.com/EmgyMgmt/Alert/index.asp
